On November 6, 2018, Merced Police Department responded to the 658 W Main Street, Merced campaign office of Assemblywoman Anna Caballero, following a report that there had been a break in during the early morning hours of November 6..
Listed as taken are a desktop computer, numerous laptop computers, personal and related electronics, and 9500 door hangers which were campaign items for Caballero’s state senate race. The total reported value of the property taken is $24,000.
In the press release campaign manager Ken Smith stated,”It is clear the break-in and subsequent burglary of Assemblymember Caballero’s Merced campaign office was conducted by a person or persons who have a vested interest in trying to limit our campaign’s contact with voters on Election Day.” Caballero is currently locked in a race for Senate with Rob Poythress.
Merced Police Department said that at this time there is no evidence to back Smith’s assertion and there are no suspects or persons of interest in the case at this time.
